SAN DIEGO, Jan. 19, 2017 -- Obalon Therapeutics Inc. (NASDAQ:OBLN), a vertically integrated medical technology company, announced today that they will be ringing the Nasdaq Stock Market closing bell, to recognize the recent launch of the Obalon Balloon System, the first and only FDA-approved swallowable, gas-filled intragastric balloon for weight loss. Physicians began treating patients with the Obalon Balloon System last week.
“On September 8th, Obalon received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, and then the following month, we completed our Initial Public Offering. This week, we celebrated our official launch to market in New York City, culminating in ringing the closing bell at Nasdaq,” commented Andy Rasdal, Chief Executive Officer of Obalon. “This is the result of nine years of product development, clinical testing, and hard work and I am extremely proud of the team at Obalon.”
The Obalon Balloon System is a swallowable intragastric balloon system indicated for temporary use to facilitate weight loss in adults with obesity (BMI of 30 – 40 kg/m2) who have failed to lose weight through diet and exercise. Three Obalon Balloons are placed in the stomach within the first three months of the six-month treatment period. The Obalon Balloon System is intended to be used as an adjunct to a moderate intensity diet and behavior modification program. All balloons must be removed six months after the first balloon is placed.
“As a relatively young company, we’re thrilled to be on an exchange that is associated with innovation and cutting edge technology that impacts people’s lives,” stated William Plovanic, Chief Financial Officer of Obalon. “Starting 2017 by ringing the closing bell at the Nasdaq stock market sets the tone for the year.”
