The offshore yuan strengthened against the U.S. dollar early Monday, with the dollar trading near 6.680 yuan, down 0.1% from the previous session’s close.

At 1:53 a.m. ET (05:53 UTC) on Oct. 19, one dollar bought 6.67992 offshore yuan. Rounded to three decimal places, the rate was 6.680 yuan per dollar.

An earlier EconoTimes market snapshot recorded the dollar at 6.69038 offshore yuan. Monday’s early quote was lower than that reading. At that time, the dollar bought 0.1% fewer yuan than at the prior session’s close.

The rate shows how many offshore yuan are needed to buy $1. A lower figure means the yuan has strengthened against the dollar.
