Oman’s Ministry of Interior finalized a field of 763 candidates for municipal council elections on Oct. 20, opening the campaign period before voters choose their representatives.
The final list includes 15 women. A preliminary roster issued Sept. 27 named 803 candidates, including 16 women, making the final field 40 candidates smaller. The elections will fill seats on Oman’s fourth-term municipal councils.
Voters can review the approved candidates through the Intikhab app or the official election website. Under municipal election regulations, candidates may campaign from the publication of the final lists until the day before voting.
Candidates seeking to promote their campaigns must submit requests through the app or website. The ministry permits meetings with voters, telecommunications, campaign signs, printed materials and advertisements in local newspapers. Ministerial Decision No. 162 of 2022 sets the procedures and fees for election campaigning.
The ministry will accept applications to register to vote or transfer registration between wilayat until Oct. 31.
