Based on the latest update on one of the most popular isekai series, the production of “Overlord” season 4 has unlikely started at this point. There remains a huge chance for the anime adaptation's renewal, but there are speculations that it could take a few more years. While waiting for new episodes, fans might want to follow Ainz Ooal Gown’s next adventures by reading through the light novel series.
‘Overlord’ season 4 plot: Where in the light novel series will it be based?
It is actually not too difficult to determine where the plot of “Overlord” season 4 will be based. The anime series adapts the events of the same title light novel series written by Kugane Maruyama. The first three seasons have covered the events of three light volumes each, so season 3 ended where the volume 9 also concluded.
There are no major plot changes applied in the manga series other than rearranging the events from the light novel so fans can easily follow its chronology on the small screen. In a little over a week, it is going to be the anniversary of season 3’s finale and yet “Overlord” season 4 is still not confirmed. To end the isekai drought for “Overlord” fans, they might want to consider supporting the light novel series.
Since there were no major plot-shattering changes done in the anime adaptation, it would not hurt for fans to jump right into the light novel’s volume 10 where “Overlord” season 4’s plot will most likely begin. It picks up from the events of establishing Ainz’s own nation, the Sorcerer Kingdom.

There is no doubt that Ainz is a formidable warrior and he had proven his combat skills several times in the series. However, running his own nation poses a new challenge for him. Once “Overlord” season 4 premieres, it will possibly start by showing Ainz overcoming his insecurities for not knowing much about lawmaking and governance. The next season will also focus on Ainz finding the purpose of his nation should serve.
Unfortunately, it is still too early to talk about “Overlord” season 4’s release date simply because, as mentioned, its production has not been announced yet. The only thing anime fans can hold on to right now is scriptwriter Yukie Sugawara’s words that the continuation of the anime series is very likely.
