SALT LAKE CITY, March 17, 2016 -- Overstock.com, Inc. (NASDAQ:OSTK) now offers customers shopping on Apple devices the option to purchase items using Apple Pay directly from the product page. Using Apple Pay is as simple as the touch of a finger with Touch ID, so there’s no need to repeatedly type in shipping and billing information.
“We are always looking to make our customer’s mobile shopping experience as convenient and secure as possible,” said Alec Wilkins, Overstock.com’s chief architect and senior vice president of product development. “We are excited that by offering Apple Pay, we are now able to bring our customers a secure tap-to-buy option directly from the product page.”
When you use a credit or debit card with Apple Pay, the actual card numbers are never stored on the device or on Apple servers. Instead, a unique Device Account Number is assigned, encrypted and securely stored in the Secure Element on your device. Each transaction is authorized with a one-time unique dynamic security code.
Overstock.com is also developing a cart-based checkout integration to offer Apple Pay for multi-item purchases within the app, to be released later this spring.
Both payment options will be available on all Apple Pay compatible devices. When paying for goods and services within apps, Apple pay is compatible with iPhone 6s, iPhone 6s Plus, iPhone 6, iPhone 6 Plus, iPad Air 2, iPad mini 3, iPad mini 4 and iPad Pro. For more information on Apple Pay, visit: http://www.apple.com/apple-pay/
Overstock.com’s iOS shopping app was named the top shopping application at the 2015 Web Marketing Association’s Mobile Web Awards, and has nearly 3 million downloads.
