Parts of Paris that include government offices and prominent tourist sites will fall under a 12-hour demonstration ban Thursday, police said, and Agence France-Presse (AFP) reported the government expects further protests.

The ban runs from 2 a.m. to 2 p.m. EDT (8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Paris time; 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. GMT). It covers areas that include the Elysee presidential palace, both houses of parliament, the Louvre museum and the Champs-Elysees.

Paris police had also barred undeclared marches and gatherings in designated areas overnight from Oct. 19 into Oct. 20 under a separate set of restrictions.
