Petition urges NASA to create bitcoin wallets to allow trading with Mars

A former Facebook techie and present CEO and founder of an experimental content publishing platform Troider, has petitioned the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) to create bitcoin wallets in order to allow people of earth to trade with planet Mars.

The petition was created by Roman Koshlyak in the White House petition website, asking people to have access to interplanetary commerce. NASA was asked to create a way for people from Earth to send a donation to them for their long and hard work for humanity.

“Currently, there are only 2 objects on Mars that technically can accept payments. It’s Curiosity and Opportunity rovers. NASA just needs to create Bitcoin wallets for Curiosity and Opportunity and put private keys on Mars,” the petition stated.

The private key of wallet will be on Mars and that any transaction between that wallet and another wallet will be the transaction between Mars and Earth. Roman Koshlyak has detailed in a technical explanation giving an example that if one private key of bitcoin transaction located in Germany and another one in France, then this is a bitcoin transaction between Germany and France. Hence, the first private key is located on Earth and another private key located on Mars, then the transaction would be between Earth and Mars.

“If NASA will place a private bitcoin keys on Curiosity and Opportunity, even better if they will generate them on Mars, and provide public keys to people of Earth, we would be able to trade with Mars by paying to Curiosity and Opportunity,” it added.

Currently, 6 people have signed the petition at press time and it needs 99,994 signatures by January 13, 2017, to get a response from the White House.

Recently, cryptocurrency and blockchain are gaining attention for its application in outer-space. Last week, an Indian government employee came up with a new paper titled ‘Extra-Terrestrial Applications of Blockchains and Cryptocurrencies’ that explores on how value-based transactions can be conducted in outer space.
