Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian said neighboring states should rely on joint efforts to maintain regional security, arguing they do not need U.S. involvement to provide it themselves. “Regional countries do not need the US to come from the other side of the world under the pretext of providing security,” he said.
The Iranian presidency said Pezeshkian made the remarks at an event marking a local holiday. In the same remarks, he faulted Washington’s defense spending and alleged U.S. violations, while disputing its stated security rationale for a regional presence.
His call for regional coordination comes amid talks involving Iran, Saudi Arabia, Pakistan and Türkiye. The four countries agreed to continue security talks. An earlier round included Saudi Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, Pakistan army chief Field Marshal Asim Munir and Türkiye intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin. Iran’s delegation was led by Major General Mohsen Rezaei, secretary of the Supreme National Security Council, EconoTimes previously reported.
