Philly & Boston Wagers Abound for the Big Game: From Cultural Centers to Restaurants, Both Cities Are Betting More Than Pride That Their Teams Will Come Out on Top

HADDONFIELD, N.J., Jan. 31, 2018 -- Despite Boston and Philadelphia’s long-standing reputations and comradery over their mutual quest for independence from England, it’s an all-out modern day civil war between two of America’s most historic cities over who will win the Big Game this Sunday.

Boston-based Nick Verano of STRIP by Strega and Bob Platzer entered into a friendly wager over who will win the Big Game. When the Eagles come out on top Nick will send down Boston cream pies and lobster rolls and have to don an Eagles jersey on Monday. If New England comes out on top, P.J. Whelihan's will supply a Philly-style tailgate and Bob will sport a Patriots jersey. Philadelphia's P.J. Whelihan's founder, Bob Platzer, has agreed to a wager with Boston-based Nick Varano of STRIP by Strega. If the Eagles come out on top next Sunday, Nick will send down Boston cream pies and lobster rolls and have to don an Eagles jersey on Monday. If New England comes out on top, P.J. Whelihan's will supply a Philly-style tailgate and Bob will sport a Patriots jersey.

• Philly's Kimmel Center v. Boston’s Boch Center – the losing city buys cheesesteaks or lobster rolls and posts a public photo wearing the other team’s colors.
   
• Philadelphia’s Betsy Ross House v. Boston’s Old North Church – if the Eagles win the church displays the 13-star flag, if the Patriots win the Ross House displays 2 lanterns.
   
• Mayor Kenney's Rocky v. Mayor Carpenter's Rocky – if the Eagles lose, the iconic Rocky statue in front of the Museum of Art dons a Patriots jersey. If the Patriots lose, the Rocky Marciano statue in Brockton, MA  wears an Eagles jersey.
   
• Philly’s Dottie’s Doughnuts v. Boston’s Kane’s Doughnuts – if the Eagles win they send a dozen Boston Crème pies. If the Patriots win Dottie’s sends Kane’s a dozen Greased Pole doughnuts.
   
• Philly’s Yards v. Boston’s Harpoon – the losing brewery pours the winning brewery’s beer brands in their taproom(s) and the entire staff wears the other team’s gear.
   
• PA and SJ-based PJ Whelihan’s v. Boston’s STRIP by Strega Steakhouse – if the Eagles win, PJ employees enjoy a lobster roll and Boston cream pie party for twenty and if the Patriots win the king of wing restaurant group will be sending a tailgate complete with cheesesteaks, soft pretzels, Tasty Cakes and all the wings a twenty-person party could ever handle. • Philly Rodeph Shalom [Philly Youth Basketball] v. Temple Israel [CTE Center at Boston] – The synagogue from the city of the losing team donates 18 times the difference in the score to the charity of the other synagogue's choice.
