Bulgaria’s Defence Ministry said a Bulgarian Navy team destroyed an unmarked drone found on a beach north of Shabla Lighthouse after identifying it as a Russian Gerbera-2 with no explosive device.

BTA said an operational duty officer with the Interior Ministry reported the drone’s presence at 3 a.m. ET (08:00 UTC) Friday. The ministry’s press office said a Navy team examined the aircraft before destroying it in a controlled operation. It identified the object as an unmarked Russian Gerbera-2 and said it carried no explosive device, BTA reported.

The team assessed that the aircraft probably fell into the sea and washed ashore, BTA said. The drone measured 3 by 4 meters and was found about 800 meters from Shabla Lighthouse on the beach north of the landmark, according to the agency.

The regional directorate of Bulgaria’s Interior Ministry in Dobrich said police cordoned off the area, Anadolu Agency reported in an earlier account.
