Democratic Senate nominee Abdul El-Sayed's campaign asked U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens to skip a planned Sunday event with him, Politico reported, escalating a public dispute before Michigan's Nov. 3 election.

The Guardian's live coverage said Politico cited two people familiar with the decision. The event was planned at a Detroit church with Rep. Jim Clyburn, and Stevens' attendance remained uncertain in that account.

The Guardian described the request as coming amid public tensions between the Democrats. Stevens had called on El-Sayed to condemn an ad linking rising costs to U.S. support for Israel, the Guardian reported.

The Michigan Secretary of State's final results show El-Sayed won the Aug. 4 Democratic primary with 744,952 votes, or 48.45%, to Stevens' 731,160, or 47.55%, a margin of 13,792 votes. Mallory McMorrow received 61,516 votes, or 4%. El-Sayed is scheduled to face Republican Senate candidate Mike Rogers on Nov. 3.
