‘Power Rangers’ recently unveiled the latest character posters as well as new photographs revealing the cast in their full superhero costumes. The costumes are said to resemble robotic space suits complete with an alien texture.
The newest character posters officially released by Lionsgate featured the latest incarnations of one of television’s most beloved groups. According to Entertainment Weekly, each poster showed close-up portraits of Dacre Montgomery’s Jason a.k.a. Red Ranger, Becky G’s Trini a.k.a. Yellow Ranger, Naomi Scott’s Kimberly a.k.a. Pink Ranger, RJ Cyler’s Billy a.k.a. Blue Ranger, and Ludi Lin’s Zack a.k.a. Black Ranger. The characters’ posters had each of their trademark colors with the franchise’s trademark logo superimposed over their faces.
The actors are set to make their first ever San Diego Comic-Con appearance, according to Just Jared. Becky G. shared her excitement saying, “Just overall, the whole experience… There’s so many people in costume and so many die-hard fans, and I’m more excited to meet the Power Rangers fanatics and learning more about what I’m doing. I was a fan growing up, but it’s still, like, a whole new world to be able to share this new insight with the new and old Power Rangers fans. ”
She revealed that she and her co-stars created a group chat on WhatsApp to communicate while they are still miles apart from each other. She said, “You’ve got Ludi in China, you’ve got Dacre in Australia, and Naomi in the U.K. RJ and I are the only ones who live in L.A., so he came by to visit me in the studio. We’re all really looking forward to going. From what I hear, it’s like going to a whole other world.”
Meanwhile, new photographs of the teenagers in full Power Rangers garb was released ahead of the 2016 San Diego Comic-Con. According to i09.com, one image featured the five characters standing in line with brand new costumes created especially for Dean Israelite’s upcoming cinematic reboot of the ‘90s television show. Their costumes looked to resemble Iron Man’s suit of armor.
Another image showed the characters without their masks. Each had a uniquely designed helmet. The most noticeable characteristic in the new costumes is the strange, almost alien-like texture of the suits.
Elizabeth Banks is also set to portray the franchise’s iconic villain Rita Repulsa. Bryan Cranston will also be featured as Zordon, the Ranger’s mentor depicted in the original series as a hologram of a disembodied giant head in a tube in the Ranger’s central headquarters.
‘Power Rangers’ is an upcoming action-adventure and fantasy film based on the superhero team of the same name from the original live-action television series broadcasted in the 1990s. It is directed by Dean Israelite and produced by Marty Bowen, Brian Casentini, Wyck Godfrey, Haim Saban.
The film is slated to bow in theaters on March 24, 2017.
