Nigeria’s benchmark All-Share Index slipped 0.13% in the week ended Oct. 23, as a Premium Times Nigeria stock guide highlighted five companies ahead of the Nigerian Exchange’s Oct. 30 reporting deadline.
The index closed at 247,222.27 points, down 317.46 points from the previous week. The Nigerian Exchange (NGX) put market capitalization at ₦160.519 trillion and said the index remained 58.87% higher for the year through Oct. 23.
Market breadth was negative: 55 equities fell, 20 rose and 71 were unchanged. The Insurance Index lost 2.79% and the Oil/Gas Index declined 2.55%, while the Industrial Goods Index gained 1.95%.
Premium Times published its guide on Oct. 26, naming Unilever Nigeria Plc, Stanbic IBTC Holdings and Cornerstone Insurance among its five selections. Aradel Holdings and Fidson completed the list. The outlet said it considered company fundamentals and cited price-to-earnings ratios and 14-day relative strength index readings. It also characterized Stanbic IBTC as trading below intrinsic value.
Premium Times attributed the market’s weekly decline to profit-taking. The NGX’s report listed index and sector changes but did not identify a cause. The outlet presented its selections as an investment guide rather than a buy, sell or hold recommendation.
Unilever Nigeria’s unaudited results for the nine months ended Sept. 30 showed revenue of ₦184.007 billion and profit of ₦26.403 billion, compared with ₦155.410 billion and ₦21.981 billion in the same period a year earlier. Its board approved the statements for issue on Oct. 22.
The NGX compliance calendar sets Oct. 30, 2026, as the due date for third-quarter reports covering July through September.
