Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed al-Ansari said Oct. 20 that talks between Washington and Tehran were continuing and warned unchecked escalation could spread the conflict across the wider region.

At the Global Security Forum in Doha, he said Qatar was consulting regional partners and hoped for an agreement as conditions on the ground deteriorated. An earlier effort to make a ceasefire the basis for talks did not succeed, and combat then resumed, he said.

Al-Ansari described Yemen’s fighting as connected to tensions involving Iran, while saying it had a separate course. He urged efforts to ease both conflicts in parallel.

Iran’s semi-official Tasnim news agency reported that Pakistan Army Chief Asim Munir was expected in Tehran on Oct. 20 for talks with Iranian officials on diplomatic efforts to end the conflict. EconoTimes had previously reported on the planned Tehran visit.
