Qubic said payments to verified owners started Oct. 20 after a theft affected 1,404 wallets, while affected holders can submit claims through May 1, 2027.
Qubic said its Computors, the network’s validators, approved the recovery plan. Owners submit a signed message and supporting evidence of control, then identify the affected wallet and give a new destination address. The stated process requires a seven-day dispute period after approval before payment.
Qubic said roughly 87.1% of the stolen tokens remain in protected on-chain escrow. Qubic also said crypto exchange MEXC froze an account containing the remaining 12.9%. Returning that portion follows a separate, slower path that depends on MEXC and any law enforcement proceedings, Qubic said.
Qubic linked the breach to weak seed generation in wallets set up using older Qubic iOS apps, Safari on Mac computers, and browsers on iPhones and iPads. The project said the flaw was limited to wallet setup and left the network’s transaction rules unchanged. The reimbursement process follows Qubic’s earlier opening of a claims portal for affected wallet owners; claims are accepted through May 1, 2027.
