Qubic has opened a claim portal and said its network has resumed after a theft from 1,404 wallets, giving affected holders a way to seek the return of stolen tokens.
The network’s validators, called Computors, approved a recovery plan, Qubic said. The portal directs affected holders to submit claims using new, secure identities. Opening that process does not mean the stolen balances have been restored.
About 2.94 trillion QU, units of Qubic (QUBIC), were taken during the Oct. 17 wallet breach. Qubic attributed the theft to weak randomness in wallet seeds created through particular Apple-device and browser combinations. It said the weakness arose during wallet creation and did not affect the network protocol.
Qubic’s web wallet version 4.26.4 changed the method for generating new seeds. Seeds created before the update retain their original randomness.
After the theft, Qubic said MEXC froze an account that had received 12.9% of the stolen QU. Computors halted transactions at tick 85,371,949, initially keeping the remaining 87.1% from moving. Neither the exchange freeze nor the network halt, by itself, returned tokens to their owners.
The claim portal says the portion sent to MEXC has a separate, slower return path that depends on law-enforcement cooperation. Affected holders have until May 1, 2027, to file claims.
