Foreign ministers from Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia called for a diplomatic resolution to the conflict involving the United States, Israel and Iran and safe Hormuz shipping, warning that disruptions threaten global supply chains.
The joint statement followed the seventh R4 ministerial meeting in Istanbul on Oct. 23. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan hosted the session, Türkiye’s Foreign Ministry said. The R4 grouping brings together Türkiye, Egypt, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia.
The ministers warned that maritime disruption puts trade and the movement of energy, fertilizer and food at risk, including for vulnerable communities across and beyond the region. They urged a swift, full return of safe passage through the Strait of Hormuz and rejected measures that impair lawful navigation.
They backed the Islamabad memorandum of understanding and diplomatic efforts aimed at preventing further escalation. The statement called for resolving the wider conflict through diplomacy alongside its appeal for maritime passage to resume.
On Gaza, the ministers called for aid deliveries to continue without interruption and for reconstruction. They reiterated support for a Palestinian state based on the June 4, 1967, lines, with East Jerusalem as its capital.
On Yemen, they denounced Houthi attacks against Saudi Arabia and commercial shipping in the Red Sea and Bab Al Mandeb, and called for a return to the political process. The ministers agreed to continue coordinating on the issues addressed in the statement.
The meeting follows EconoTimes’ earlier coverage of expected talks on Hormuz shipping and Saudi security.
