Reuters reported India’s foreign-exchange reserves at $719.74 billion for the week ended Oct. 24, while the Reserve Bank of India’s Oct. 23 supplement gives figures only through the prior week. The newer total is not confirmed by that RBI supplement.
Reuters, in a report carried by The Economic Times, described the weekly decline as $1.2 billion. In its Oct. 23 Weekly Statistical Supplement, the RBI reported reserves of $721.016 billion as of Oct. 16, down $5.011 billion that week. Foreign currency assets fell $5.758 billion to $591.847 billion, while gold rose $706 million to $105.800 billion. Special drawing rights were $18.578 billion and the reserve position with the International Monetary Fund was $4.791 billion.
The reported totals of $721.02 billion and $719.74 billion imply a $1.28 billion decline, which rounds to $1.3 billion to one decimal place. That differs from the $1.2 billion decrease Reuters reported. Moneycontrol’s economic calendar lists Oct. 30 for reserve data with Oct. 23 as the reference date. EconoTimes previously covered the Oct. 16 reserve figures and weekly decline.
