The Rainforest Foundation has recently announced that it will make use of a new digital currency, dubbed "BitSeeds", in an attempt to support its global forest protection efforts.
BitSeeds will be used to raise funds for the Rainforest Foundation as it supports the global cause. The foundation was established in 1989 by the famous singer-songwriter Sting and his wife to preserve natural habitats in the Amazon River region.
Suzanne Pelletier, executive director of Rainforest Foundation, while speaking to CoinDesk said that work on the project began nearly a year ago after Gabriel Aronovich approached the group, who is leading the project.
"It's been a journey the past year trying to sort through how that could actually work, and so the idea was to develop a currency that was sustainable and that could help in the protection and planting of trees", Pelletier added.
