As one of the most influential online platforms that also has an insane level of community activity, Reddit has a lot going for it. The site recently announced that it will be making some cosmetic changes to the profiles of users. Not only will this make the site much more similar to other platforms like Facebook or Twitter, it will also serve to curb the impact of trolls on new users.
Reddit’s interface has always stayed on the simpler side since the beginning, with users only being able to post on the forums that they created or that already existed. With the design overhaul, this is not the going to be the case, The Verge reports.
For starters, users will now have an honest to goodness profile page where they can have their username, avatar, and regularly receive feeds with regards to posts that they are involved in. The new addition is still in its test phase, so it won’t be rolled out to the greater public just yet. However, it is already racking up a lot of points among media outlets and users.
According to the announcement post that Reddit put up about these changes, the decision to implement the new profile space is largely affected by the number of complaints that the platform received from content creators. Considering just how fractured the site’s forum can be, this is just understandable.
“We’re making this change because content creators tell us they have a hard time finding the right place to post their content,” the post reads. “We also want to support them in being able to grow their own followers (similar to how communities can build subscribers).”
The profile page is also meant to help keep the trolls at bay, especially for big names joining Reddit, Engadget reports. This works well Karma system that the site already has in place.
