Ahmed Haroun, a former National Congress Party chairman, was reportedly detained by Sudan’s army, Reuters said Sunday, citing two unnamed officials; he is wanted by the International Criminal Court (ICC) over alleged crimes in Darfur.

Reuters did not identify the officials, state the location or timing, or describe the circumstances of the reported detention. Its report included no military comment and provided no information about any transfer to the court.

The ICC case page lists an arrest warrant dated April 27, 2007. It says Haroun faces 20 counts of crimes against humanity and 22 counts of war crimes, tied to alleged crimes in 2003 and 2004. Those charges are allegations, not convictions.

The page continues to list Haroun as at large but does not state when that status was last updated. The ICC says the case remains in the pretrial phase until Haroun is arrested and transferred to The Hague.
