IndiGo is discussing a possible 100-jet Embraer purchase, a move that could add regional planes to its 442-aircraft fleet as it grows, Reuters reported, citing three people familiar with the talks.
The discussions include an option for about 50 additional aircraft. Reuters said the talks remain preliminary, the aircraft type and final count have not been settled, and an agreement is not assured. Two people cited by Reuters placed the earliest likely deliveries in 2030. The outlet said a 100-aircraft deal could carry a list-price value in the billions of dollars, though large purchases commonly involve discounts; no contract value has been confirmed.
IndiGo's investor presentation showed a fleet of 442 aircraft as of Sept. 30, including 44 ATR turboprops. The airline said in May 2025 that it expected to exceed 600 aircraft by 2030. If an order proceeds, IndiGo would bear the acquisition cost, but no price has been confirmed.
Reuters identified two possible uses for the jets: reaching smaller destinations or replacing some ATR turboprops with aircraft that carry more passengers. Embraer's published figures give the E175 capacity for up to 88 passengers, the E190-E2 up to 114 and the E195-E2 up to 146. Reuters said the model under discussion has not been finalized.
Embraer and Adani Defence & Aerospace announced in February 2026 that they would explore an Indian final assembly line for E175 jets and work to secure orders for the proposed facility. Embraer President and CEO Francisco Gomes Neto called India “a key growth market” for the segment. The announcement did not connect the project to IndiGo's reported discussions.
Reuters reported that Gomes Neto told the outlet in March that the assembly proposal depended on orders for at least 200 aircraft. Locally assembled deliveries could begin in 2028 if orders were secured by the end of 2026, Reuters said. It also said it had received no immediate response from either IndiGo or Embraer.
