“Riverdale” season 3 is still months away from airing on The CW. But the cast and creators of the show recently dished out plot details and teasers. For one, more scenes in season 3 will be focused on the parents’ dark past, which calls for more flashback scenes.
Showrunner Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa and the cast of the series attended the Television Critics Association press tour on Monday. During the event, many juicy details about the “Riverdale” season 3 plot were confirmed.
For one, the highly anticipated arc focused on the past of the adult characters are going to be included in “Riverdale” season 3. According to Deadline, episode 4 is titled “The Midnight Club” and it has been in the pipeline for a long time now.
Movie geeks might see an allusion by “Riverdale” season 3 episode 4’s title to the classic “The Breakfast Club” film, and it’s because there is. During the press tour, Aguirre-Sacasa said about episode 4, “It’s our take on ‘The Breakfast Club.’” The showrunner added that this flashback season has been in the cards since the show started.
“We’ve been teasing this for years, going back to season 1. I call this the ‘Lili Reinhart Memorial episode’ because she’s been wanting to do a flashback episode for years,” Aguirre-Sacasa added.
The anticipated “Riverdale” season 3 episode temporarily goes back to the ‘80s. “The Midnight Club” will feature the younger cast members portraying the high school versions of their parents. For example, K.J. Apa will play his father Fred (Luke Perry) while Camila Mendes becomes her mom Hermione (Marisol Nichols).
Meanwhile, the younger cast members of the show were also in attendance at the San Diego Comic-Con last July. During a panel interview, it was revealed that “Riverdale” season 3 is opening with Archie (Apa) on trial on charges of murder.
