As Season 1 of “Riverdale” progresses, secrets are now starting to be revealed.
In Episode 4 of The CW series titled “The Last Picture Show” Betty’s sleuthing skills led her to discover that the Miss Grundy (Sarah Habel) is actually Jennifer Gibson of Minnesota. TVLine recapped that Betty (Lilli Reinhart), after finding out that Ms Grundy’s car was at Sweetriver the day Jason Blossoms (Trevor Stines) disappeared. She then conducted a mock interview to confirm her suspicions about Archie (KJ Apa) having an affair with Ms Grundy when the music teacher inadvertently revealed that she also gave private lessons to Jason before taking on Archie.
Later on, Betty, with Veronica (Camila Mendes) in tow, breaks into Ms Grundy’s car and found a driver’s license ID with her picture and the name Jennifer Gibson from Minnesota, and a gun. Meanwhile, Ms Grundy revealed that she is indeed Jennifer after Archie confronted her, and said she used Ms Grundy’s identity to start a new life after escaping from an abusive relationship with her drunkard ex-husband.
Following the confession, Archie decides to break things off with Ms Grundy, and gave her a new cello bow as a thank-you. Betty’s mom Alice (Madchen Amick) then barges in with Betty and Archie’s dad Fred (Luke Perry), and asked Ms Grundy to leave town for good. However, fans may as well guess it right that we’ll not see the end of Ms Grundy, as she smiles flirtatiously with two teenage boys as she packs her car to leave.
While all of this is going on, Betty’s discovery may have been closer to the truth about Jason’s death, as an unidentified person breaks into Sherriff Keller’s (Martin Cummins) home and begins stealing all of his files, including the murder wall his son Kevin (Casey Cott) teased his father about.
The latest episode, nonetheless may have debunked some earlier theories, but created fresh ones regarding Jason’s death. Although several are arguing that Alice may be the killer given the solid motive she has, it is another possibility that the killer could be Alice’s husband and Betty’s father, Hal (Lochlyn Munro).
As Jena Guillaume of Buzzfeed said, “Just because we haven’t heard his anger in the way we’ve heard Alice’s doesn’t mean it’s not there — in fact, he has more reason to be angry because of the way Jason and Polly’s relationship affected not just his daughter but also his wife. Hal as the killer may be less obvious at this stage, but if we’re playing the long game it actually makes him a more likely suspect than his wife.”
