A Russian drone strike on Kyiv killed at least two people in a 24-story apartment tower on Oct. 21, adding to civilian casualties in the Ukrainian capital on consecutive days.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said the strike set the 20th floor of the Sviatoshynskyi district building on fire. The city health department confirmed two deaths and said two injured people were taken to city hospitals.
The attack followed Russian drone strikes on Kyiv on Oct. 20. Klitschko reported one person killed and 21 injured in those strikes.
Kateryna Dzomina, a student who lives near the tower, told The Kyiv Independent she was asleep when the explosion occurred and had not heard the drone approaching.
The Sviatoshynskyi district administration said crews were clearing debris and assessing damage. An assistance center was accepting applications for financial aid and advising residents about compensation for damaged homes.
