Two Ukrainian authorities gave casualty counts that may overlap after a Russian drone strike near Kyiv, with the Kyiv Oblast Prosecutor’s Office reporting three dead and four injured in Chabany on Oct. 20.
The office placed the strike site near the Kyiv–Odesa road and a shopping center. The impact ignited vehicles and led officials to limit traffic along that section. The prosecutor’s office said its numbers were not final and remained under review.
Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said a drone fell near a gas station in Holosiivskyi District, beside the boundary with Kyiv Oblast. His post gave a toll of one dead and seven injured, with five people hospitalized. Officials have not indicated whether his count includes people in the prosecutor’s tally.
Ukraine’s Air Force reported that Russia launched 165 drones in an overnight attack, including 105 jet-powered drones, from 6 p.m. Oct. 19 to 8 a.m. Oct. 20 Kyiv time. It said Ukrainian defenses had shot down or suppressed 115 by 8 a.m., while 20 remained airborne. The Air Force did not connect any drone in those figures to the Chabany strike.
The prosecutor’s office said it had opened a pretrial investigation into a possible violation of the laws and customs of war.
