STMicroelectronics will appoint new technology and strategy chiefs on Jan. 1, 2027, giving two senior executives broader research roles as the chipmaker changes how it coordinates product development.

Remi El-Ouazzane will become chief technology officer while continuing as president and Executive Committee member, with responsibility for Microcontrollers, Digital ICs, RF and Optical Communication Products. He will also lead the Imaging Sensors Sub-Group. His CTO portfolio will span system engineering and Global System Research & Applications, as well as research on digital CMOS and related fields such as RF mixed-signal, embedded flash and imaging. It will also include advanced packaging, testing and characterization.

Marco Cassis will take on research leadership for Analog, Power & Discrete and MEMS technologies. He will remain president, an Executive Committee member and head of those product areas, while keeping his existing responsibility for ST’s strategy and becoming chief strategic officer. His strategy work will include identifying growth, partnership and bolt-on acquisition opportunities while anticipating the competitive landscape. ST said the expanded research remit is intended to accelerate profitable growth in the product group.

ST President and CEO Jean-Marc Chery called the CTO and CSO responsibilities “strongly interdependent.” He said the Managing Board and Executive Committee would coordinate with the two executives to align ST’s technology and product plans with its strategy. The company said El-Ouazzane’s CTO remit is intended to bring research, engineering and product development into closer coordination.

The new organization takes effect Jan. 1, 2027, and implementation is due to finish by the end of March. ST will also adjust its reportable segments on Jan. 1, but its announcement did not detail the changes. The remainder of the organization will stay unchanged.
