SAN JOSE, Calif., Oct. 04, 2017 -- Satellite Healthcare, a leading not-for-profit dialysis provider, today awarded $800,000 in Applied Pragmatic Clinical Research Grants to four academic clinical research programs. Each recipient will receive $200,000 over two years; results from the research will be used to improve care for kidney patients. The 2017 grant recipients and their research topics are:
- Shuchi Anand, MD, Stanford University, A Multi-Center Exercise Intervention for Persons Transitioning to Dialysis Using the “Exercise is Medicine” Framework
- Tara I, Chang, MD, MS, Stanford University, Timing of Antihypertensive Medications on Key Outcomes in Hemodialysis: THE TAKE-HOLD STUDY
- Rakesh Malhotra, MD, University of California, San Diego, The Utility of Pervasive Sensing Technology to Measure Physical Activity in Maintenance Hemodialysis Patients
- Shayan Shirazian, MD, Columbia University, Improving Outcomes for Hemodialysis Patients by Addressing Poor Quality of Life with Cognitive Behavioral Strategies
Satellite Healthcare has funded more than $15 million in research to improve the lives of patients with kidney disease since 2000. In addition to funding grants, the program also includes an annual symposium where grant recipients share their findings, receive constructive feedback and participate in a free exchange of ideas with peers and members of the Satellite Healthcare Research Committee. The symposium offers the opportunity for past grant recipients to present their work and evaluate new research applications.
