Short positions represented 87% to 90% of tracked position value across three performance rankings in Satoshi Note’s first Satoshi Index tally with Pacifica, though every group showed unrealized losses.

In the snapshot, the 24-hour group held about $2.43 billion in shorts and $322 million in longs, putting its short share at 88%. Shorts accounted for 90% of the seven-day group, at about $2.98 billion against $344 million in longs. The 30-day group held about $3.14 billion short and $481 million long, an 87% short share.

Satoshi Note recorded the figures at 11:48 p.m. ET Oct. 19 (03:48 UTC Oct. 20). Pacifica, a Solana-based perpetual futures exchange, joined Hyperliquid, Lighter and dYdX in the count. Adding a fourth exchange means these totals cannot be directly compared with the index’s earlier three-exchange readings.

A difference between trader counts and position size also appeared in earlier EconoTimes coverage of Bitcoin (BTC) futures positioning. In the index’s 30-day Bitcoin group, 110 traders were long and 113 were short. Their positions were far less evenly divided: about $124 million long against $882 million short.

Among traders ranked on 24-hour performance, shorts made up 93% of Bitcoin position value and 97% of Ether (ETH) position value. Bitcoin shorts in that group had about $32 million in unrealized losses, while Zcash (ZEC) shorts had about $23 million in unrealized gains. At the group level, the seven-day ranking showed an unrealized loss of about $58 million; the 24-hour and 30-day groups showed losses of about $24 million and $21 million, respectively.

The short tilt was not uniform across assets. Of the 20 largest assets by position value in the 24-hour group, Worldcoin (WLD) and Monero (XMR) were the two with more value in longs than shorts.

The rankings select traders by past performance, which can put successful short traders in multiple groups after prices fall. The index covers positions on its four exchanges, leaving out spot holdings and positions elsewhere. Satoshi Note refreshes the figures hourly, giving readers another reading of how those tracked positions change.
