Anadolu Agency reported that Saudi-led coalition spokesman Maj. Gen. Turki al-Maliki said the alliance destroyed a Houthi missile after intercepting it en route to Najran amid renewed exchanges in Yemen.
Anadolu said al-Maliki made the claim in a post on X. The agency placed Najran in southwestern Saudi Arabia near the Yemeni border.
On Oct. 20, the coalition said a separate missile headed toward Riyadh was intercepted, according to a statement carried by the Saudi Press Agency. The statement blamed the Houthis for that launch but did not identify the force that carried out the interception. EconoTimes previously covered the Riyadh interception.
Anadolu described the Najran incident as part of renewed escalation dating to July, with the coalition and Houthis exchanging attacks. It said Saudi Arabia has led a coalition supporting Yemen’s internationally recognized government since March 2015.
On Oct. 9, United Nations special envoy for Yemen Hans Grundberg told the Security Council that fighting had spread to the Bab al-Mandab coast and other fronts. He also said attacks had hit civilian and energy infrastructure in Saudi Arabia. EconoTimes previously reported Grundberg’s account of the conflict.
