‘Scandal’ season 6’s episode 10, titled “The Decision,” will feature an alternate reality where Olivia refused to rig Fitz’ election in the past. The promo flashed Olivia in a wedding gown, hinting that she may have gotten married as an aftermath of her solid decision in the elections. Actor Tony Goldwyn also confirmed that his character President Fitz won’t be the POTUS in the upcoming episode.
The synopsis for episode 10 posted on TV Guide reads, “With the ugly truth of Frankie's assassination revealed, a torn Olivia (Kerry Washington) wonders how different her life—and the country—would be if she, Mellie (Bellamy Young) and Cyrus (Jeff Perry) had never rigged Fitz's (Tony Goldwyn) election.”
According to Cartermatt, “The Decision” will mark the political thriller television series’ 100th episode. Olivia will try and come to terms with some “what-if” scenarios in her life after realizing certain things following Frankie’s assassination. The series’ 100th episode will feature an alternate reality for Olivia as she contemplates on what her life would have been like if she didn’t rig Fitz’ election results together with Mellie and Cyrus.
The promo shows a “parallel universe” wherein Olivia refused to fix the U.S. elections eight years past. It even flashes Olivia in a wedding gown. It seems that Olivia’s future may have been undeniably different should she have chosen to go in another direction.
The main protagonist’s life could have taken a happier turn if her decision was different back then. It remains unknown who Olivia would end up marrying.
During a previous interview with Entertainment Weekly, Goldwyn confirmed that his character President Fitzgerald "Fitz" Thomas Grant III will not be the President of the United States in the upcoming episode. Goldwyn said, “He’s not the president of the United States… He’s very different. It’s something of a study of how the circumstances of our lives shape our identity, how we see ourselves, and how we present ourselves to the world. It’s subtle, the difference, it’s just really interesting who he is and what he struggles with. He ultimately is quite different.”
‘Scandal’ season 6’s episode 10, titled “The Decision,” is scheduled to air on ABC on April 13, 2017. It was directed by Sharat Raju and written by Johanna Lee. It will be followed by episode 11, titled
"Trojan Horse,” scheduled to be released on April 20 and directed by Jann Turner.
