Chinese search engine giant Baidu is going to launch “Totem Rewards” and reveal its blockchain layout at an upcoming conference, China Money Network reported.
In April 2018, Baidu launched Totem – a blockchain-based image rights management system. The platform stores the copyright information of the work permanently on a blockchain and helps to make the dissemination of the work more transparent.
Totem “conducts network infringement monitoring of original works, quickly produces visual data reports, and entrusts lawyers to initiate rights protection online” (loosely translated).
According to Totem website, it is going to hold a launch conference on July 18. At the conference, VP of Baidu’s search division Wu Hailong, Baidu’s search chief architect and director of the blockchain laboratory Tan Waiting, and Zhang Xinyong, director of Baidu search product operations, will launch Totem Rewards and announce Baidu’s blockchain layout for the first time.
“Totem rewards are seen as an incentive and means to allot equity in the ecology. For now, these rewards are open only for some functions like user uploads,” China Money Network noted adding that no specific consumption scenarios for the rewards have been released so far.
