“Shameless” season 10 is definitely a milestone for the show, but it is also expected to feel like a new beginning with Fiona (Emmy Rossum) not being around. With her absence, Debbie (Emma Kenney) is now expected to step up and take on the responsibilities that the viewers saw Fiona doing for the last nine years.
One clue provided shortly after season 9 ended was that Debbie is one of the characters to surely develop in “Shameless” season 10. It was even foreshadowed by the fact that Fiona left her a check of $50,000.
It can be recalled that in the season 9 finale, Fiona left the check in an envelope — specifically for Debbie to find — with the note, “Love you.” Executive producer John Wells told TVLine that leaving the $50,000 to Debbie was tantamount to giving it to the family because of how she was stepping up to be a provider for the family.
This gesture could say something about the new Gallagher dynamics in “Shameless” season 10. “[Fiona] knows that Debbie’s going to have to step up,” the EP further explained. “The whole season, Debbie was stepping up and paying more bills and doing more things.”
It is no secret that Fiona used to be the matriarch figure of the Gallagher family. Her siblings benefited from her hard work. Even though she was doing it with love, season 9 also showed how all those sacrifices had affected her entire future as an individual. As Fiona ventures on a life of her own, it will be exciting to see how her siblings and Frank (William H. Macy) would adjust to a life without her in “Shameless” season 10.
Glad we could finally say it: Welcome back to #Shameless, @noel_fisher.

Missed you, my friend.
“Shameless” season 10 without Fiona could still be hard to imagine for avid fans. On the plus side, they are going to see more of Ian (Cameron Monaghan) and Mickey (Noel Fisher) together.
Showtime has yet to announce a release date for “Shameless” season 10. But based on its premiere schedule since season 7, the series is likely to return in fall.
