A 24-hour crypto derivatives tally reported Oct. 20 recorded $297 million in liquidations, with short positions contributing $168 million, outpacing the long side by $40 million.
Reported long liquidations totaled $128 million. The two side figures sum to $296 million, leaving a $1 million gap against the overall tally because the amounts are rounded.
Ether (ETH) accounted for $100 million of the closures, while Bitcoin (BTC) represented $76.1 million. The largest single liquidation in the tally was valued at $11.96 million and was recorded on Binance’s BTCUSDT market.
Liqwall’s separate Oct. 20 page listed $147 million in short liquidations and $84.9 million in longs, also putting short closures ahead.
A separate four-hour reading on Oct. 20 showed $140 million in short liquidations out of about $155 million overall. Liquidation values measure the positions closed, not verified realized losses. Short trades gain value when prices fall, while long trades benefit from rising prices; leverage can trigger a forced closure when margin requirements are not met.
