“Shrek 5” is one of the much-anticipated animated films today. Fans are looking forward to it since it was already announced that the fifth film in the franchise had been given a go signal. However, the announcement came in 2015 and four years after, Dreamworks has yet to release the movie.
Moreover, there is already a huge time gap between the last sequel and the upcoming “Shrek 5” since the fourth installment made its way to the cinemas in 2010. This means that fans have been waiting for nine years and the movie is not even in actual production yet. Perhaps, the only thing that has been made for the film at this time is the script.
The script is ready
It was revealed that the script for “Shrek 5” is finished and now it is up to Dreamworks and NBCUniversal on what to do with it. They should order the filming to begin but we don’t know at this point if there are still lots of pre-production works to complete.
“I finished that script which I really, really, really love,” Michael McCullers told The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s really personal to me. It’s got a pretty big reinvention behind it that I guess I can’t really reveal, but since DreamWorks was sold to Universal in that time for over $3 billion, I imagine they’re particularly interested in it stepping up and actually figuring out the future of the franchise in that way on the corporate level”.
The chances of being canceled
“Shrek 5” is taking so long and the production has not been set for almost a decade already. However, with the script on-hand and the writers are still working on the movie, it is clear that it was only delayed. The script is a big indication that the fifth “Shrek” film is coming.
Plot and rumors about the movie
It was said that “Shrek 5” will not be the same as the previous sequels. It will be reinvented thus the story and theme will change. There were reports that it will show a modern twist where the characters may be familiar with modern gadgets now like smartphones and more. The focus will be on Shrek’s family, perhaps his and Fiona’s kids are grown-ups or teenagers now?
Finally, based on the leaked report, “Shrek 5” may have been set for release on Sept. 23, 2022.
