To help residents distinguish official outreach from scam calls, Singapore police will adopt a dedicated outbound number on Nov. 2, Channel NewsAsia reported, citing a joint government media release.

The Singapore Police Force (SPF) will use 6000 0999 for outgoing calls, with a follow-up SMS from the “gov.sg” Sender ID, CNA reported. The line is for outbound calls and is not available through WhatsApp or Telegram, the outlet said. CNA said the system is intended to help residents recognize legitimate police calls.

CNA also reported at least 3,230 scams involving people impersonating government officials from January through September 2026, with losses of at least S$142.5 million. Police had the highest number of reported impersonation cases among government agencies, with at least 1,310 reports and S$53.3 million in losses, the outlet said.

The SPF’s Annual Scam and Cybercrime Brief 2025 recorded 3,363 government-official impersonation cases and about S$242.9 million in losses in 2025. In 2024, the force recorded 1,504 cases and about S$151.3 million in losses.

In an Oct. 7 response to a parliamentary question, the Ministry of Digital Development and Information (MDDI) said agencies would use a common government phone prefix and a recognizable government caller name. It said the SPF would pilot the prefix before a broader rollout. MDDI also said scam concerns can make people wary of unfamiliar government calls, and that it does not centrally track how many agency calls go unanswered or why.

Singapore has used the “gov.sg” Sender ID for government text messages since July 1, 2024, MDDI says. CNA reported that plans to extend the caller identification approach to other agencies are still being studied.
