A roughly 7% fall in SK Hynix accompanied a 209.62-point drop in the KOSPI on Friday, leaving the index at 5,728.04 after a 3.53% loss. South Korea’s benchmark fell more by percentage, while Japan’s Nikkei 225 lost more points in raw terms.

The KOSPI’s decline came alongside losses in Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix. Samsung Electronics shares fell about 3%, roughly four percentage points less than SK Hynix. Electronics stocks added pressure to Japan’s index.

Japan’s Nikkei 225 fell 2.12% to 63,290.11, a loss of 1,369.36 points. The gap between the indices was 1.41 percentage points: the KOSPI’s 3.53% fall was about 1.7 times the Nikkei’s 2.12% loss. Because the benchmarks start at different levels, raw point losses are not directly comparable; percentages scale each move to its index.

Earlier coverage documented a KOSPI session below 5,600 as SK hynix and Samsung shares weakened.
