South Korean prosecutors indicted independent lawmaker Jang Kyung-tae on Friday, charging him over alleged harassment of another lawmaker’s aide and partial disclosure of her identity.
Prosecutors date the alleged incident to October 2024 and place it at a restaurant in western Seoul. They also accused Jang of violating the law on punishment of sexual violence by exposing part of the aide’s identity.
Jang denies the harassment allegation and was indicted without being detained. Yonhap reported that he left the ruling Democratic Party in March amid the scandal.
Yonhap also reported that the aide filed a police complaint last year. In March, a police committee convened at Jang’s request recommended referring him to prosecutors over the allegations.
Prosecutors said their decision followed interviews with people connected to the case and an examination of video alongside other evidence.
