South Korea’s won weakened marginally against the U.S. dollar Wednesday, with the close remaining near its strongest point of 2026 after the exchange rate fell from its opening level.
Bank of Korea (BOK) data put the dollar-won rate at 1,341.5 at the close, 0.5 won above Tuesday’s close of 1,341.0 won per dollar. The rate started Wednesday at 1,344 and finished 2.5 won lower.
Because the quote measures won per dollar, the increase from Tuesday’s close indicated a slight weakening in the South Korean currency. The retreat from the opening rate narrowed that gain during the session.
The 2026 low was 1,323.1 on Oct. 26. Wednesday’s close was 13.8% below the year’s high of 1,555.8, recorded July 2.
