South Korea’s won recovered from a weak start against the U.S. dollar Tuesday, closing at 1,341.0 won per dollar and reversing part of Monday’s decline, Bank of Korea data showed.

Monday’s dollar-won rate had risen 9.5 won to a close of 1,343.8 won. Tuesday’s opening rate of 1,346.0 was 2.2 won above that level, but the dollar fell 5.0 won from the open to the close. That left Tuesday’s rate 2.8 won below Monday’s.

The dollar-won rate shows how many won are needed to buy $1. Its fall during Tuesday’s session meant the South Korean currency strengthened after opening weaker.

The close stood 17.9 won above the 2026 low of 1,323.1 and 214.8 won below the year’s high of 1,555.8. It remained near the lower end of that range.

For a longer comparison, the dollar stood at 1,418.4 won on Aug. 10 and 1,428.8 won on Nov. 3, 2025. Both readings were higher than Tuesday’s close.
