Kushi Katsu Tanaka introduces deep-fried Matcha and Strawberry KitKat skewers, available this October.

Kushi Katsu Tanaka is reintroducing its deep-fried KitKat skewers in Japan, offering new matcha and strawberry flavors starting this October. The dessert fuses crispy textures with the signature KitKat sweetness, creating a unique treat for a limited time.

Kushi Katsu Tanaka Reintroduces Deep-Fried KitKat Skewers with New Matcha and Banana Flavor Twists

Japan continues to push the boundaries of culinary creativity with its unique KitKat offerings. Among the country's many innovations in food, KitKat has become a beloved canvas for experimentation. According to SoraNews24, Kushi katsu, a dish that translates to "cutlet on a skewer," epitomizes this inventiveness, with restaurants offering a variety of deep-fried skewered items. While kushi katsu traditionally includes meats, seafood, and vegetables, one restaurant chain, Kushi Katsu Tanaka, has expanded its menu to include deep-fried KitKats.

Last year, Kushi Katsu Tanaka introduced KitKat kushi katsu, drawing inspiration from the phonetic similarities between "KitKat" and the Japanese phrase “Kitto katsu,” which translates to "I believe you will succeed." This clever wordplay and the restaurant’s signature dish resulted in a bold fusion with overwhelming customer approval. Following the success of their initial offering, Kushi Katsu Tanaka has decided to reintroduce the deep-fried KitKat skewers with even more creative flavor combinations.

Returning to the menu is the classic Kitto Kushi Katsu KitKat, priced at 180 yen (US$1.30), alongside the Kitto Kushi Katsu KitKat Banana (200 yen), which features banana slices atop the chocolate wafers before frying. However, last year’s yogurt and cornflake variety has been removed due to its lukewarm reception. In its place, the restaurant is introducing the Kitto Kushi Katsu KitKat Matcha Anko (240 yen), a new flavor that promises to deliver a sophisticated blend of tastes.

This matcha-flavored dessert starts with an Adult Sweetness Rich Matcha KitKat, part of a Japanese KitKatline known for its subtle, less sugary flavor. The green tea essence is complemented by a sweet red bean paste (anko) coating before deep-fried, creating a delicate balance of bitter, sweet, and salty flavors.

New White Strawberry KitKat Skewers Join Kushi Katsu Tanaka's Limited-Time Seasonal Offerings in Japan

Another addition to the lineup is the Kitto Kushi Katsu KitKat White Strawberry (240 yen), made with an Adult Sweetness White Chocolate KitKat. This version includes fiantine (crepe dough) mixed into the KitKat and is topped with a slice of strawberry before frying, introducing a tart element that contrasts with the sweetness of the white chocolate.

The classic banana and matcha KitKat kushi katsu will be available starting October 1. The regular and banana varieties will remain on sale until January 31, while the matcha version will be available only until December 8. After that, the white chocolate strawberry flavor will take place from December 9 to January 31, offering an exciting seasonal twist to Japan's ongoing KitKat craze.
