StarkWare introduced Shadow Accounts on Starknet on Tuesday, Oct. 13, giving apps a way to use separate pseudonymous addresses while keeping account activity visible on the public blockchain.
The feature draws on funds from a shielded STRK20 balance to maintain an address for a particular app, according to Starknet’s Shadow Account documentation. It keeps the public link between that address and a user’s main wallet private, allowing users to separate app activity from their primary address.
The account itself is still visible on-chain. A block explorer can show its balance and contract activity, so the feature separates wallet identity from app activity without concealing the address’s transactions.
Starknet describes two distinct ways to build support. Compatible wallets can manage private state and transaction proofs through the Wallet API. The Privacy SDK is a separate route for wallet builders and advanced integrators, according to Starknet’s developer documentation.
