Ahead of Ohio’s Nov. 3 gubernatorial election, CBS News on Oct. 22 featured strategists Joe Borelli and Cameron French discussing the possible effect of a campaign ad from Ohio Republican gubernatorial nominee Vivek Ramaswamy.

The ad features the estranged mother of Democratic gubernatorial nominee Amy Acton. CBS News said it was facing criticism from some Republicans, while President Donald Trump defended the campaign’s decision.

CBS News reported that Gov. Mike DeWine called the ad wrong and urged Ramaswamy to remove it, while keeping his endorsement. Vice President JD Vance defended the spot, and Sen. Jon Husted said he would not have run it. EconoTimes previously covered the divide among Ohio Republicans over the ad.

Acton’s campaign said the ad politicized her childhood and released a response video in which her brother criticized the use of their family history. Early in-person voting began Oct. 6, and Ohio’s general election is scheduled for Nov. 3.
