SAN FRANCISCO, April 19, 2017 -- The paths of Joe Montana and Jerry Rice will connect forever. San Francisco is making sure of it.
FivePoint, a leading developer of mixed-use, master-planned communities in coastal California, in collaboration with the city of San Francisco, is melding tradition with modernization by naming the streets of a visionary new neighborhood on the site where Candlestick Park once stood after the heroes of the legendary stadium.
The recipients include sports legends Edward J. DeBartolo, Jr; Joe Montana; Jerry Rice; Coach Bill Walsh; Carmen A. Policy; Ronnie Lott; Barry Bonds; Orlando Cepeda; and Juan Marichal. FivePoint is especially honored to make this announcement as Carmen Policy, the former 49ers President and CEO, is recognized next week in San Francisco as a 2017 inductee into the Bay Area Sports Hall of Fame.
The Candlestick development – part of San Francisco’s largest redevelopment project in over a century – will transform the celebrated stadium’s former surroundings into a vibrant new community. Anchoring Candlestick will be an urban retail outlet center, as part of a joint venture with Macerich. Alongside the urban retail center, plans are underway for over 7,000 homes, neighborhood shops, restaurants featuring local cuisine, a Film and Arts Center for entertainment, a hotel, community services and nearly 110 acres of parks and open space.
With FivePoint’s companion neighborhood The San Francisco Shipyard, Candlestick will reclaim the last major tract of undeveloped Bayfront land – more than 750 acres along the southeastern shoreline – to build two distinctive communities carrying San Francisco’s spirit of creativity, livability and success into a new era.
The story of Candlestick Park, home to the 49ers and baseball’s Giants for five decades, is one of shared memories cherished for a lifetime. Candlestick’s newly named streets will help weave together past, present and future, echoing the spirit of San Francisco.
Stay tuned for more about Candlestick’s kick-off this summer.
