Sudan’s Foreign Ministry said Nov. 1 it filed a complaint with the U.N. Security Council and African Union’s Peace and Security Council over alleged drone launches by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) from Ethiopia.
The ministry accused Ethiopia of allowing the paramilitary group to send armed drones toward civilian sites and power stations in several Sudanese states. It said it submitted documents it considered evidence of the launches and that the strikes caused civilian casualties and interrupted essential services. The ministry called on Ethiopia to stop the operations.
The filing follows Sudan’s earlier accusation that Ethiopia allowed drone launches from its territory. The conflict between Sudan’s army and the RSF began in April 2023 amid disagreement over incorporating the paramilitary force into the military.
In an Oct. 31 statement, the United Nations said drone strikes had caused hundreds of civilian deaths across Sudan and Abyei, including women and children. It urged the parties to begin with a prompt halt to hostilities, protect civilians and critical infrastructure, and take part in mediation in good faith.
