‘Switched at Birth’ season 5 is set to follow Bay and Daphne as they return home to Kansas after living in China for months. Bay’s new love interest is also teased in a new sneak peak video for season 5’s episode 1, entitled “The Call.”
According to Master Herald, season 5 of the drama television series ‘Switched at Birth’ is set to pick up where season 4’s cliffhanger left off. Bay (Vanessa Marano) and Daphne (Katie Leclerc) were last seen receiving a phone call all the way from Kansas. The two lived in China for months, with Bay working as a tattoo artist and Daphne working in a clinic.
It seems that their independent life overseas will have to be cut short as they head back home for a yet unrevealed reason. Series creator Lizzy Weiss promised that the incoming season will feature exciting and emotional twists for the series’ characters.
In one scene from the promo, Bay regretfully says, “Sometimes I wish we never came back home.” By the end of the promo, Daphne and her boyfriend Mingo (Adam Hagenbuch) will have to face criticism for inadvertently discriminating against African-Americans after Mingo shows up at a party dressed as a Caucasian version of Lil Wayne.
It was also revealed by Game N Guide that Regina (Constance Marie) will get romantically involved with a younger man (Michael Galante) while the Kennish-Vasquez clan will face a scandal following Toby’s (Lucas Grabeel) marriage to Lily (Rachel Shenton).
Perhaps the homecoming will be a chaotic one for the two girls. However, there may be some hope for happiness, specifically for Bay as it was hinted that she may get together with either an old flame or a new love interest.
In the new sneak peak video for episode 1, entitled “The Call,” Bay and Daphne wait for someone back in rural China. It is revealed that the mysterious visitor is a man in Bay’s life when Daphne comments about Bay being nervous.
When Daphne insists it was Bay’s idea for him to visit, Bay replies, “But we left things so weird the last time I saw him. I don’t know if his feelings about me are different now. Well, after everything’s that’s happened between us, I just – oh, when is he gonna get here?”
Daphne reassures her that it would take a while for the visitor to arrive considering the different modes of transportation he would have to take for his journey to the remote area.
Bay’s mystery man was speculated to be either Emmett Bledsoe (Sean Berdy), Travis Barnes (Ryan Lane), Ty Mendosa (Blair Redford) from Season 2, or a new character altogether.
‘Switched at Birth’ season 5’s episode 1, entitled “The Call,” is scheduled to premiere on Freeform on January 31, 2017. It was directed by Allan Arkush and written by Lizzy Weiss.
