Syngene International shares rose 12.19% to ₹410.85 on Oct. 28, while quarterly results showed a sequential return to profit but lower earnings, revenue and operating margins than a year earlier.
Bhavcopy Analyzer listed the closing price. Syngene provides research, development and manufacturing services to global life sciences companies. Its consolidated profit after exceptional items was ₹32.2 crore for the quarter ended Sept. 30, 2026, compared with a ₹9 crore loss in the June quarter and profit of ₹67.1 crore a year earlier. The company did not say what drove the share move.
Revenue from operations reached ₹832.7 crore, up from ₹736 crore in the previous quarter but down from ₹910.6 crore a year earlier. Operating earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization (EBITDA) were ₹147 crore, compared with ₹91 crore in the June quarter and ₹200 crore a year ago. The EBITDA margin improved to 18% from 12% sequentially, remaining below the year-earlier 22%.
Syngene Managing Director and CEO Siddharth Mittal said the quarter saw “positive traction” in its contract development and manufacturing organization (CDMO) business. Management cited lower Zoetis revenue and foreign-exchange hedge losses as the main drags on the annual comparison. It estimated that the operating EBITDA margin would have been in the mid-20s after adjusting for the hedge loss.
Syngene also reported its first manufacturing agreement for the Bayview biologics facility in the United States, with a large pharmaceutical customer. It did not identify the customer or disclose the contract’s value or expected revenue. Additional work included clinical-material supply from the company’s Bengaluru biologics facility, Unit 3.
The company said its manpower-related optimization was complete and other cost measures were continuing, with benefits expected in later quarters. The presentation listed a ₹6 crore net-of-tax exceptional expense for employee termination benefits under an approved policy, but did not quantify savings from the broader cost program. It schedules process development in India during 2026, ahead of drug-substance production at Bayview in 2027.
