A forum opened in Ankara on Friday urged Turkic states to coordinate responses to disinformation and expand Turkic-language material for artificial intelligence, framing both as issues of regional cooperation.

Head of Communications Burhanettin Duran called disinformation “a matter of collective security for the Turkic world.” Duran said that if a disinformation campaign emerged in Bishkek, officials in Baku, Tashkent, Astana and Ankara should respond that same evening. He also asked public institutions to make claim verification a joint task.

Duran said AI systems should be trained on high-quality material in Turkic languages drawn from sources in the region. He argued that such content would help Turkic societies shape how they are represented online.

Türkiye’s Directorate of Communications said the Oct. 30-31 forum covers cooperation in media, communications and broadcasting, along with cultural exchange and shared objectives. The program includes an Oct. 31 session on language and collective memory in the digital age.

The Ankara forum is part of the 13th Organization of Turkic States summit. Its two-day program concludes Saturday, Oct. 31.
