Turkish Agriculture and Forestry Minister Ibrahim Yumakli used a Nov. 3 Ankara reception to call for deeper cooperation with Azerbaijan, linking bilateral ties to reconstruction and regional stability.

Anadolu Agency reported that Turkish institutions and companies are helping rebuild territories Azerbaijan regained. Yumakli said Ankara and Baku should continue expanding their cooperation.

The Azerbaijani Embassy hosted the reception at Ankara’s Gazi Officers’ Guesthouse ahead of Victory Day. Yumakli invoked the countries’ slogan, “One nation, two states,” to describe their relationship.

He pointed to the Shusha Declaration as a milestone that placed the countries in an allied relationship and helped bring their ties closer, Anadolu reported.

Yumakli said Azerbaijan’s military victory in Karabakh had created an opportunity to establish lasting peace, stability and security across the region. He also said Azerbaijan had “made history in 44 days” and paid tribute to those killed and to veterans.

He described regional initiatives advanced by the two presidents as a way to promote prosperity among the region’s countries and communities, Anadolu reported.

The remarks followed a meeting in Ankara between Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov after an Organization of Turkic States summit, Anadolu reported. Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry said the agenda included bilateral relations, cooperation within the organization and regional issues, as detailed in EconoTimes’ earlier account of the post-summit meeting.

Azerbaijan will mark Victory Day on Nov. 8.
