Taco Bell is bringing back the Cheesy Street Chalupa, a fan favorite from 2023, for a limited time nationwide. Starting July 18, customers can enjoy this street food-inspired item featuring a fried chalupa shell, mozzarella, pepper jack cheese, and Cantina chicken or marinated steak.
Taco Bell's Cheesy Street Chalupa Returns Nationwide for a Limited Time Starting July 18
Taco Bell is reintroducing a legendary item to its menu. Customers who frequent the establishment may recall the Cheesy Street Chalupa from the autumn of 2023. Mashed evaluated the Cheesy Street Chalupa (along with the chain's disappointing, co-released chicken morsels) to ascertain that it was a menu item that was both flavorful and texturally balanced. The sole issue was that the Cheesy Street Chalupa was exclusively available in Indianapolis, Indiana. The item is currently making a triumphant return, and according to the information provided to Mashed, it will be available nationwide this time.
The Cheesy Street Chalupa's return provides a chance for those who formed an attachment to the menu item to reunite with it. At the same time, those who missed out on the opportunity to try it for the first time eventually have the chance. The dish includes a fried chalupa shell loaded with mozzarella and pepper jack cheese, a choice of either Cantina chicken or grilled and marinated steak, creamy Jalapeño Ranch sauce, and a topping of chopped cilantro and onions.
The street food-style item will be sold in a pair for $5.49. When Taco Bell reinstated its shredded chicken for the Cheesy Street Chalupa's Indianapolis test run in 2023, it was not a popular item for an extended period. Similarly, there is a catch for this new release: The Cheesy Street Chalupa will be available for a limited time, commencing on July 18 (although the duration of this time is presently unclear).
Inspired by Quesalupa and Street Tacos, Taco Bell's Cheesy Street Chalupa Returns Nationwide
According to Mashed, the Quesalupa and street tacos were the two sources of inspiration for the Cheesy Street Chalupa, per the information Taco Bell provided to Mashed. First, Taco Bell characterizes its Cheesy Street Chalupas as "street-sized." These are likely to be smaller, making them more convenient to consume on the go, similar to a street taco. Furthermore, the chalupa's protein is garnished with minced onion and cilantro. It is derived from the same straightforward yet flavorful garnish commonly found on many authentic street tacos (although they differ from the American version).
The Quesalupa, last featured on Taco Bell menus in 2021, is also genetically related to the Cheesy Street Chalupa. An identical (if not similar) chalupa shell was filled with mozzarella and pepper jack cheese. Nevertheless, the fillings were reminiscent of those in a traditional Taco Bell taco: Sour cream, diced tomatoes, cheese, lettuce, and seasoned sirloin. The cheesy exterior was the most popular feature among customers, so it was adapted for the Cheesy Street Chalupa. It is also no surprise that the chalupa has returned following its Indiana test run.
